Wine Enthusiast 88 points - Floral and funky, this combines 47% Syrah, 42% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Franc and 1% Viognier. Medium-strength, it’s a rustic, dusty wine with notes of blackberry, blueberry and a touch of dried herb.  (May 2016)

Wine maker notes
THE LOST COLONY is a distinctive red blend of Syrah, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc sourced from Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. It’s inspired by a mystery: the disappearance of an English colony. In this colony, times were hard, and the people struggled to survive, so their governor set sail again in search of supplies. But when he finally returned, there was nobody there- the colony was lost without a trace. What had happened? Where there any survivors? Nobody really knows what transpired that night, but of this we are sure: nearby, in the land of the Croatan, a fair-haired baby girl was seen playing among the children, where she happily grew into a graceful young maid. Each glass of THE LOST COLONY invites you to uncover its secrets and surrender to earthy flavors of oak and tobacco, subtle notes of black and red berries, and harmonious hints of spices.

In the 1800s, American Pioneer Wine Growers was the very first company to market wines using intriguing proprietary names that were based on unique stories imbedded in American culture. While using proprietary names is a common practice today, it was quite the innovation in 1906! Today, we’ve taken this spirited approach to the next level by creating a series of four wines that are part of an immersive experience, each wine revealing one part of a mysterious tale that will conclude with the unveiling of our new winery in Geyserville, Sonoma County.
