Wine Enthusiast 90 points - Initially this smells like bell pepper and green bean more than ripe berry fruits, but with time in the glass it rounds into spicy, herbal form. A tight, reedy palate is bolstered by tomatoey acidity, while flavors of herbal raspberry and red currant finish with ripped tannins and plenty of residual acidity. Drink through 2024.
Vinous 89 points - (aged for 16 months in all new French oak): Saturated bright, deep ruby. Crushed dark berries, licorice pastille and violet on the aromatic nose. Densely packed and extremely primary, with a distinctly high pitch to its flavors of violet, herbs and spices. Rather fine-grained if backward in the mid-palate, then powerful and chewy on the long, lively, firmly tannic finish. The label boasts very high dry extract of nearly 39 grams per liter, but this wine and the Kinien malbec also seem quite heavily extracted. Both have firm acidity. -- Stephen Tanzer
