Wine maker notes
Baron Louis, the son of Eugene, was a very important person in the history of Montfaucon. He restored the castle at the end of the XIX century, saving it from falling into ruin. This cuvee is a tribute to him. Baron Louis is a blend of our finest lots of old vines (Appellation Cru Lirac since vintage 2010) with very low yields of under 30hl/ha. The blend of five grapes (Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, and Mourvedre), some of them co-fermented, combines elegance, complexity and richness. Only 60 percent of the blend is aged in French oak barrels. In this way I wish to keep the spirit of the Rhone where oak never dominates the wine but the wine has a more complex fruity and spicy character.

Montfaucon is located opposite to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, just across the Rhone River. Our vineyards are spread out between Montfaucon and the two neighbouring towns, Roquemaure and St Genies de Comolas. The original 18 hectares (1995) of vineyards have grown to 45 hectares by planting new vineyards and by buying old ones. Our vines are up to 90 years old with an average age of 40 years. All the vineyards are farmed at low yields (between 25 to 42 hl/ha).
