Our perennial best-selling summer white wine, the “Les Rials” hails from the Gaillac region in southwestern France. In this region, there grows a 1,000 year old white varietal grape named Len de L’el. The name means “Loin de l’oeil” or "far from the eye" so named because its main stem is very long.
The hot and dry Autan winds of this area contribute to the early ripening of these grapes and the local AOC is named appropriately "Fraîcheur Perlée", which means the “pearl of freshness”.
This off-dry wine has a floral, citrus-fruit aroma with flavors of tropical fruits and candied delicacies. It is medium weight and very refreshing, but it also has some noticeable mouth-feel due to its being barrel fermented and kept "Sur Lie" for more fruit flavors and a longer aftertaste.
This is a very popular summer wine for those in the know. We typically sell through a few hundred cases a year by August.
Great to pair with summer sausages and pates as well as hearty salads and grilled fish or chicken.
