Color: The light enhances its dark amber hues and bright, clean color.
Nose: Fascinatingly complex, with spiced nuances, hints of chocolate, of roasted coffee, cinnamon and other dried fruits.
Palate: On the palate, pleasant, smooth and full-bodied. Its finish has nuances of toffee caramel, wood and liquorice.
Aftertaste: Brugal 1888 leaves a slightly sweet and long lasting aftertaste, with a sublime taste which denotes perfection.
Ultimate Beverage Challenge 93 points - Mashed banana, green plantain skin, baking spices and very ripe tropical fruit all mingle on the nose. Bright and satiny on the palate, the elegant flavors of cured tobacco, vanilla spiked caramel and sweet spice are smooth and deep. (Apr 2016)
Wine Enthusiast 93 points - A limited-edition rum, newly launched in August 2011, and finished in previously used Sherry casks. That Sherry finish contributes so much: the bright copper-penny color, the lush aromas of burnt orange and raisin and the smooth, full-bodied texture. Enjoy the elongated flavors of toffee flavor dusted with Mexican-spiced chocolate while you can. (Dec 2011)
Distilled for Dryness: Brugal’s distillation removes many of the heavy alcohols that give other rums their sweetness, resulting in a clean, dry and smooth spirit.
Aged for Smoothness: Double-wood aged for 6-8 years in White American Oak Casks, followed by 2-4 years in first-filled Spanish Sherry Oak Casks that are hand selected by the Master of wood for the world’s finest Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
More evocative of a single malt then a sweet sipping rum, people often call it “The Rum for Whisky lovers”.
|A DIFFERENT KIND OF RUM
Since 1888, we’ve been creating distinctly different rum, and there are two very important things that set Brugal apart from others.
The first is the Brugal method of distillation, which removes much of what other rums leave in, resulting in a spirit that is cleaner, dryer and less sweet. The second is an unwavering dedication to cask-aging every drop of Brugal, today using the same wood policy as the world’s finest Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
Because we cask-age our rum in the year-round heat and humidity of the Dominican Republic, maturation is accelerated, contributing to a balanced, sophisticated family of rums unlike any other.
A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO MAKING IT
Take good care of your home. It’s a simple philosophy, and for the Brugal family, the Dominican Republic has been home for over five generations.
Byproducts from the fermentation process are converted to biogas that now accommodates 70% of the distillery’s power needs. Carbon dioxide is captured from the distillery processes and used for beverage carbonation instead of being released to the atmosphere. The wood from retired barrels is converted to biofuel and the steel is recycled. Brugal leads the spirits industry with a systematic program to reclaim and recycle glass packaging from bar, restaurant and retail partners in the Dominican Republic .
These are just a few of the ways in which we are acting to ensure a positive legacy for the next five generations and beyond.
