The TRYBOX Series of New Make Whiskeys offers consumers the opportunity to taste different styles of American Straight Whiskeys right off the still, before it goes into a charred oak barrel—the same way our Master Distillers taste-test them. Two different varieties are available—New Make, which is the unaged whiskey that becomes Evan Williams Straight Bourbon after barrel aging, and Rye New Make, which if aged would become Rittenhouse Rye. Other varieties are to come, based on the recognized styles of American Straight Whiskey. Only Heaven Hill Distilleries, the sole producer that distills Bourbon, Rye, Corn and Wheat Whiskeys, could offer such a full line of American new make whiskeys.
New make whiskey, sometimes referred to as “White Dog”, represents American Whiskey in its most raw and elemental form. An entirely different sensory experience than barrel aged whiskey, “White Dog” offers up much grainier and sharper aromas and flavor notes. Today’s mixologists and cutting edge consumers are finding new applications for new make whiskey as a unique and appealing cocktail base, as well an educational tool for understanding how straight whiskey is aged.
The TRYBOX Series is named after the copper and glass “tasting station” at a distillery where the new make whiskey flows off the still in its most pristine form and where the spirit is sampled, or “tried” by the Master Distiller.
